City of Stone Mountain Announces Park Revitalization Initiative and Celebration Event

Safe clean parks and access to fun summer recreational programs are integral components of healthy thriving communities. To support our efforts in achieving this goal, the City of Stone Mountain has partnered with EFFORT Foundation and the Randolph Medlock Park Re-Birth Volunteer Committee to renovate and revitalize Randolph Medlock Park. Once a beautiful sprawling 10.7-acre community hub for sports and family recreation, Medlock Park has fallen into disrepair due to systemic budget restraints and now sits mostly unused by local residents.

Through the EFFORT Foundation’s Safe Play Areas Initiative, the City of Stone Mountain will receive needed funds to assist with resurfacing the old asphalt basketball courts with a new safer composite material and add new basketball hoops. To celebrate the re-opening of the new basketball courts, Randolph Medlock Park Re-Birth Volunteer Committee will host the first, Mike ‘The Stinger’ Glenn 3on3 Streetball Classic tournament at its 2nd Annual “Rock The Block at Medlock” Revitalization celebration on August 26, 2017. In addition to the 3 on 3 basketball tournament, this year’s celebration will include a health fair, live music performances, food vendors and exhibitor showcase spaces.
